December FMQ Challenge - Final!!!

Yes, the last lesson from Patsy Thompson is done!
It was not easy, but a lot of fun. Thank you, Patsy, for this great tutorial. I loved quilting feathers. Here is what has been done during the 2012 FMQ Challenge:
I am realy impressed with the results and about how much did I learn. I also was one of the lucky winners: A non-stick quilting surface and a pair of Machingers quilting gloves improved the quality of my quilting. The SewLine Fabric pencil is now my favorite marking tool. I also discovered Aurifil thread and I loved it. Many thanks to Darlene from SewCalGal, she made it happen! Happy New Year, everybody!

FMQ Challenge - November

Yes, November. I can't believe that this challenge is almost over! I didn't miss anything until now and I learned a lot! This month I completed even two tutorials:
The first one is from Sarah Vedeler. She taught us how to quilt spirals. My spirals are not perfect but not too bad, I think. The most important thing is I love quilting them. I would like to thank Sarah Vedeler for this amazing tutorial and I will try to improve my spirals more and more! The second one is the bonus tutorial from Diane Loomis. She teaches how to make machine trapunto. I finally got the water soluble thread from YLI and tried to make the trapunto flower in the middle of the sandwich. I liked it to. Thank you very much, SewCalGal for the 2012 FMQ challenge! I learned a lot during this year and I am looking forward our last lesson.

FMQ Challenge - September

In September the FMQ Challenge lesson was taught by Paula Reid. I could not say that the Fluff & Stuff technique was new to me. But "Fancy Feather" looks interesting. It is not the design of my type. That means that I have to get out of my comfort zone and try it! I decided to use the Golden Threads quilting paper that I bought last summer on Vermont Quilt festival. I transfered the pattern on the paper and started quilting.
This is what I got:
The paper come out easily but when I looked closer, I discovered that the thread looks dirty :-( When the needle was punching the paper, it also picked up some pencil marks, very disappointing.
I bought this paper for quilting my king size quilt and it seams that I have to find another solution. And do not forget rule number one - always try the marking tools before using them!!! Another problem that I can't resolve until now:
I get the "nests" on the back of my quilt when quilting with Superior Thread Bottom Line(this is also the new product I got recently). I have never had this kind of problem before, therefore I was quilting with many differnt threads: Gutterman cotton and poly, invisafil, YLI silk, even metallic thread never gave me this problem. I changed 5(!) different needles(Microtech 60 and 70, quilting, universal, metallic), I refilled the bobbin, re-threaded my machine many times - nothing helps. I think I should e-mail this question to the company - everybody on the forum seems to be so happy with this thread, but not me.

FMQ Challenge - August.

This month FMQ expert on SewCalGal is Wendy Sheppard. I follow her blog "Ivory Spring" and She already posted about the Jester's hat quilting motif, I liked it and I wanted to try it tomorrow ... maybe... or later.... Then, she appeared on SewCalGal. This is good because there is a dead line :-) I have to do it until end of the month, no choice :-) And I did. This motif is not too complicated, but practicing took some time. I finished the sampler first, then i used this motif to quilt the case for my Galaxy Tab.
Thank you, Wendy and SewCalGal!
